Finding Financial Assistance

In addition to information from social workers, patient navigators, and other health care providers, there are a number of national and local service organizations that help people with cancer who have financial challenges.  Contact these organizations directly to learn more about their specific programs and services, including eligibility.

                                                                                                                         

Check with individual Pharmaceutical Companies.  Almost every pharmaceutical company has patient assistance programs to help patients with the co-pay for specific drugs.The website is usually the name of the drug, eg, if you are taking Herceptin and need informationon assistance with co-pays go to www.herceptin.com, for Afinitor: go to www.afinitor.com., for Xgeva, see www.xgeva.com, etc.

                                                                                                               

Check the Database to Find Help in Your Area.The Cancer Financial Assistance Coalition www.cancerfac.org, is a group of 14 organizations who provide a searchable database of resources available to you, based on your diagnosis and zip code.


Know Your Social Security Disability Options. Most people diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer qualify for Social Security Disability under the Compassionate AllowanceProgram, assuming you have a qualifying work history.  This will help if you cannot work.


Early Life Insurance Payouts - a life insurance policy ordinarily pays benefits after a policy owner dies, However, these benefits can be paid directly to a chronically ill or terminal policy holder before he or she dies. Check with your insurance company .


Breast Cancer Charities  - Help Now Fund provides emergency financial assistance to help people in active treatment with their rent and utilities: http://www.thebreastcancercharities.org/help-now-fund/.


Patient Access Network Foundation provides co-pay, deductible and medical financial assistance.


PAF Financial Aid Fund Division is an independent division of the Patient Advocate Foundation.  It provides small grants to patients who meet financial and medical criteria.  If you are interest in applying for this, you should start by calling the division toll free at 855-824-7941.
